What would it be like to get a behind-the-scenes look at aviation? To see aircraft up close, explore an airport, meet the people who work in the industry, and discover what really happens beyond the runway?
Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) 2026 gives young people the opportunity to do just that.
Taking place on September 19, 2026, GIAD is an exciting, hands-on event designed to introduce young people to aviation in a fun, engaging, and memorable way. Sheltair Aviation is proud to support Women in Aviation International (WAI) and host GIAD events across its network, welcoming young aviation enthusiasts and their families.
Step Inside the World of Aviation
For many young people, aviation begins with a fascination with airplanes. GIAD takes that fascination a step further by giving attendees an opportunity to experience aviation up close.
Depending on the location, participants may have the chance to explore aircraft, meet aviation professionals, see airport operations behind the scenes, participate in interactive activities, and ask questions about what it’s really like to work in aviation. It is a chance to get out from behind the classroom desk and experience the aviation world firsthand. And who knows? A fun day around airplanes could spark an interest that lasts a lifetime.
There’s More to Aviation Than Flying
While becoming a pilot may be the dream for some attendees, GIAD is also an opportunity to discover everything that happens behind every flight. As young people meet aviation professionals and explore different parts of the industry, they can learn about careers in aircraft maintenance, engineering, airport operations, aviation technology, safety, business, and many other fields. The best part is that attendees don’t have to know what they want to do when they arrive.
GIAD is about exploring, asking questions, having fun, and discovering what’s possible.
A student who arrives excited about airplanes might leave fascinated by aircraft maintenance. Another might discover an interest in engineering or aviation technology. For someone else, simply stepping inside the world of aviation could be the beginning of something much bigger.
